An Eggcellent Beauty

Banner Haus News and Musings

~ I'm still staying in my stall. TOO MUCH politics. Can't people concentrate on IMPORTANT STUFF, like whether to go with the GLITTER EGG DYE or try the TIE DYE pack this year??? ~

My grandmother saved both eggshells and coffee grounds, and placed them around her plants. She had the loveliest yard.

My husband placed a "Google Maps" application on my phone. I got the bright idea to look at Granny's house via the "street view." It was 31 years ago that I last saw it. How I loved her little shotgun house, with its smell of an old gas stove and cedar closets, and its sounds of creaks and the ancient cuckoo clock ticking away! She had the yard like a botanical wonderland, with many rare species, and always a flock of rescued kitties purring or watching from their nests of monkeygrass.

Let me warn you, m'dear donkey frens, do not attempt to do any such thing as look up your grandmother's house unless you have nerves of steel. The house I remember so fondly, that was neat as a pin and so loved, is gone. There is a very dilapidated auto parts store there now. Things change in 31 years. I was feeling very lightheaded, miserable at this sight.

Then I got the worse idea to look up my old home in New Orleans, the sight of which threw me into a full-fledged fit of some type, mainly characterized by weeping, throwing myself around on the floor, and biting my own hand, until I was threatened with a trip to the ER if I didn't calm down.

If lovely gals actually hatched out of eggs, men would likely start keeping large flocks of chickens.

One bloggie fren was asking for lambs. I have two lamb pictures in reserve, and I am not about to post them yet. They are for next week, closer to Easter. And then I will start up with I-don't-know-what, because summer is a very slow time of year fer bloggies.

I know exactly what you mean about looking at our own beloved houses...you probably remember my trip to the sweet house I lived in San Diego and how much it had changed.....not as much of a shock as what you discovered though..imagine a ugly auto parts store!

  • Bernie

Oh Holly you have to be the sweetest person ever.......I know for one it is hard to go back and see our old homestead but it is okay, all is fine and I will be too.....:-) Hugs

My son & I are doing camo eggs this year:) I can so relate to the threats of trips to the ER...except my threats are usually of a trip to the mental hospital:( It is sad how places change with time and alot of times not for the better! (thanks for letting me know it is still safe to lick envelopes:)

Odd though it may seem ... facing change, challenge and all, withopen mind and heart ... has potential for grand healing.

I must be one of the lucky ones. Whenever I go home to Germany, my house is the same, more or less, my family's living in the houses my dad and uncles built, new generations of cousins living there, but more or less the same with a few additions/alterations here and there, bu still the same houses, same property.I know you can hardly find that anymore.

Oh Holly- I am sorry you discovered this! I know how you feel- my grandoparents house was torn down a few years back for ever changing my life. Hold onto you dear, sweet memeories!!

One of my former abodes seems to be gone.

Alas, we set ourselves up for heartbreak when we look backward...dang it all, we all tend to do it though. Why does the past haunt us so?
The haven of your grandma's home sounds heavenly. At least you have the wonderful memory of it all. That creamy shouldered gal being hatched would be an Easter delight for sure for the men folk!
Our poor hearts can take a lot, but some things can crack it right in two. We're fragile beings, more than we know~especially when a childhood memory is involved.

Hi, Holly! Some time ago we did just the same, visiting via Google Earth places we have lived in the past. It's weird to see how different things get with time... sigh, but that's life...I could see this house we live now as well, very closely!

Wow, Easter is almst here, Lucas is so excited to see what's the Bunny will bring to him, and I have already bought his Bakugan chocolat egg, I never know if it'll be sold out closer, so safer than sorry! He's lucky to have two Easter, the pagan and the non pagan! LOL

Hope everything is okay on your side of the world!
    Kisses and love from us.

Alas, the farmhouse I grew up in is gone now. Kinda sad but I have a grand OLD house now. And it's really in a mess, I should be cleaning. OK I'm over that now! bye Sally

I'm going to take strength from yr good attitudes about change! I don't know why I went so berserk.

I think Sally has a great idea...to live in an old house and cherish it...hmmm...

Oh, I can so relate. Who was it that wrote, "you can't go home again?" Well, I drove past our ranch the last time I was in CA and the house is GONE. THEY tore out the 6 ft tall lilacs, the roses, and it is all just a flat, dirt space. Gets one in the pit of the stomach. Particularly since I rebuilt that house with a lot of sweat equity after our flood in '97. All my pergo floors, cedar lined closets, NEW Swedish Blue door…alll gone.
Perhaps the card I sent will make you feel some better.
    luv you, BJ

I googled the location of my home in CA that we left in 1945. It was a quiet residential steet with trees and a church on the corner. There is now a wide treeless street lined with cookie cutter apartment buildings. I'm all for multiple-unit dwellings but do they HAVE to take the trees!?
(Looking forward to the lambs next week!)

Sorry to hear that your memories were shattered by looking at google maps! I did a post last year about looking at google maps. I wanted to see if you could see my mom's house and it somewhat could but not too good because her house is not close to the road and on a hill. Anyway, her neighbor's house is on the road. Her neighbor was apparently tending to her flowers and bent over showing her bum to the world as the google maps people were driving by taking their pictures! It was a hoot to see! I've laughed and laughed over that and I still do! They haven't been out by my house yet but if I see a suspecious vehicle coming down the road I'll be ready! I told my husband after seeing that that I will not ever go outside in our yard unless my hair is fixed, makeup on and I'm wearing my best clothes! lol

    Hugs,
    Angela

Well, I'm happy that my Daddy's house which he built for us is still standing and cuter than ever! My grandparents' home where I spent the first few years of my life is also still standing, with a pool and everything! I'm happy! Looking forward to seeing your lamb graphics! The little lady peeking out of the egg is pretty cute too. Have a fabulous weekend.

    Blessings,
    Sandi

So THAT explains how I was born. Thanks for the visual. I always wondered how we got here. :)
