Does anyone remember those paintings of big-eyed dogs, cats, and children that were popular in the 1960s, possibly into the very early 70s? I wanted to get the cat paintings, spending hours actually daydreaming about it, but the closest I got was cutting out the ad in the back of Ladies Home Journal and taping it inside a drawer. I had no idea those paintings were considered hideously kitschy. I found them very elegant.

These vintage images are clearly the precursors to the those later groovy designs. Since finding this image, I have found two others featuring saucer-eyed felines.

I only remember the big eyed children, and truth is they kinda freaked me out. The kitties I like!
What is this about an accident? Darn - I missed something. Glad to hear that everything, well, except the car, is okay!
I must've lived on the moon, because I don't remember seeing those cats before - or if I did, I don't remember...they are cute, though.

Hi Holly they look like cute kitty sisters.Very sweet.
To beat the heat I made a cooling drink with mango pulp, fresh mint and sugar.
But of course I love big eyed kitties, and lost kitties and fluffy kitties, so long as they belong to someone else. My cat, will be my last cat. And just to spite me I know he will out live me...damnable beast. But these kitties are cuties.
I can't believe the heat ya'll have had. whew, chilled drinks all around huh?

Oh, thanks for the memories! I had a big-eyed girl and a couple big-eyed kitty painting on my walls when I was a wee one!
I was just catching up on some posts of yours I missed, and I hope you're having success with the Blog Quotes book. I'm quite sure that the best ones will have come from you!
I do remember those paintings always had a waif like appearence- I think they were Home Interior. I love the kitties!!
